The Sky View Observatory is located on the 73rd floor of Columbia Center. At nearly 1,000 feet it offers the tallest public viewing area in the Pacific Northwest. The 360 degree panoramic view includes Mt. Rainier, Bellevue, the Cascade Mountains, Mt. Baker, Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountains, the Space Needle and the city of Seattle.
Developed by Martin Selig, the 76-story, 1.5 million square foot Columbia Center—home to Sky View Observatory—was completed in 1985. Clad in smoked tempered glass and Carnelian granite, the structure boasts 8,800 windows, 2,100 hydronic heat pumps, 48 elevators, and 6 escalators. The many technical innovations required for such a large scale project, such as viscoelastic dampers and triangle shaped bracing, enable Columbia Center to withstand earthquakes and hurricane force winds, making it one of the strongest and safest buildings in the Pacific Northwest.

Onsite parking is available at current rates, subject to change without notice.
To get to the Observatory make your way to the main lobby on the fourth floor of the Columbia Center via the main entrance on 5th Avenue, the elevators from the parking garage, or the escalators from the 1st floor Atrium off of 4th Avenue. Find the elevator bank labeled 37-76 and take the elevator to the Sky Lobby on the 40th floor (where the highest Starbucks in the world is located). As you exit the elevator an automated voice will tell you which direction to turn. Proceed to the elevators that are labeled “66-76”. Once in the elevator press “73” and you will arrive at the tallest public view in the west in seconds!

At 788 feet of vertical elevation, the Columbia Center stands as the tallest building in the Pacific Northwest. It takes 69 floors, or 1,311 steps, to reach the acclaimed Sky View Observatory, with breath- taking views of the entire Puget Sound region.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Big Climb (March 26) and Scott Firefighter Stairclimb (March 12) events raise money through individual and team fundraising, sponsorship and entry fees which is then invested in its mission to fund blood cancer research and support services for patients. Columbia Center is a proud host and sponsor of these tremendously popular events, which raise millions of dollars to fund research and patient care every year.
SVO is remodeling to elevate your experience with an expanded 360º view! When complete in May, visitors will be able to walk the full perimeter of the observatory and see more of our beautiful city and its surroundings from the best vantage point in town. A small area will be inaccessible while improvements are made, but you can still enjoy amazing north, south and west facing views all day as well as local beers, wine and seasonal bites at Sky View Café.
Enjoy the sights from Sky View Observatory and Columbia Center every month of the year. The 2017 SVO/Columbia Center Wall Calendar features images shot by local photographers, as well as listing major holidays, moon phases and sunrise/sunset times.
